El Paso residents can help decide the future of the former ASARCO Smelter Site in west El Paso.
The city of El Paso is holding a hands-on design session this Saturday where those interested can draw out their own plans for the area. The session will take place in the auditorium at Mesita Elementary at 3307 N. Stanton from 9 in the morning to noon.

Officials with the city say this is the first time they are inviting the public to take part in city planning.

“It’s a really unique process and it’s something where their voice becomes of the design,” said Mathew McElroy, deputy director for development services for the city.

All next week designers will hold an open studio session at 2400 N. Oregon where people can stop by and provide input on the plans. McElroy said they hope to present the plans to the city council in November.
