EL PASO – A Mexico mining company is interested in much of the mess at ASARCO.

Rio Tinto is in the process of buying 6,000 tons of leftover copper and 2 million pounds of scrap lead.

The deal will generate millions of dollars for the ASARCO Trust, which is in charge of restoring the smelter site.

Some of the metals contain recoverable amounts of gold and silver.

Three to five trucks a day will be shipping the metals to Mexico over the next six months.
